Good Design and Clutter Cannot Co-Exist

Over the years, I have seen this happen time and time again, it’s almost a universal problem over time, and I realize that I need to address it in a blog post.

That is that good design and clutter cannot co-exist!  In general a design project looks it’s very best, upon completion. Now I am sure most everyone is saying “duh”.

Thinking that’s because it is new , freshly done.  Good design is timeless, and regularly I have people say they are still getting compliments 10 years later. I especially get this from new homeowners, when a house has been sold, and the sellers let the new owners know that they used an interior designer, and give them my name.

So, good design is something that will withstand the test of time, but you cannot see that good design if you cannot see past the clutter. When I revisit completed projects, that is always my number complaint. If I can get away with it, I just say EDIT, and my client takes a fresh look around and sees what I am talking about.

It’s a critical part of getting the most out of your remodel or redecorating.  To keep things uncluttered so you can see the space! Sounds like a no brainer to me, but it is the number 1 challenge for most homeowners. They keep adding and adding and not taking anything away.  We all have heard the famous statement,” LESS IS MORE”.

So, try to keep your surfaces clean and uncluttered.Remember to keep every view with 1 focal point. Don’t keep adding to the point where the eye doesn’t know where to look first.

Keep it beautiful. Keep it clean and UNCLUTTERED!

Besides being able to see the design now, you will energetically feel the spaciousness… Like you can breathe a little deeper. Ahhh, YES!
